What could be said about the city? Some see it as ruthless. Some see it as advanced and leads society to new possibilities.

Generalizations like these aren’t always accurate. In fact, the two polarized view of the city often puts the urban man as the rope in a tug-of-war that is to split his being open if not wholly exposed to unfriendly and very, very unstable weather.

But, disregarding the city’s effects on man, the conclusions earlier nevertheless suggest the city’s nature: of speed, ready to claim time and space. Under such idealization, we may have the stop light as the perfect representation of the city. The stop light when perceived in its materiality, specifically its role in the city everyday, acts as the conscience that retains reason within. The problem in that argument is that the stop light is mechanical and is bound to fail always some time soon.

So how about the one that is alive? How about you, who had lived in the city for so long? How are you to define yourself with regards to the geography you are located in?

It’s quite odd to realize that when we refer to our mobility, we only do it because of a drive to leave something rather than it being simply innate. And talking about intentions, referring to our mobility, especially considering where we are located in a society, should remind us that change is not free flowing, the same with stop lights giving the city’s chaos a reason to strive for order.

And what gives you order? What makes your image? You do have a suit do you? Then you’ll be needing designer cufflinks. Celebrate our mobility by having car cufflinks. Be proud of being in control by flaunting that stop light cufflinks in a roomful of people. Be your crowd’s reason within. Define yourself and be located.
